I was born in Philadelphia, PA, but raised in Bethesda, MD, where my father was a research scientist at the National Institutes of Health. My mother was a Registered Nurse and statistician. The weekends, however, were filled with gardening. This, along with summer camp in the Pocono Mountains, gave me a love of nature and for the wonder and fascination of all nature's colors and designs. These early experiences of being surrounded by nature are embodied not only in many of my designs, but also in my color choices.
After marrying, I had three daughters who inspired me to sharpen my sewing skills. With so many scraps left over from their outfits, turning them into quilts was, of course, a natural progression for me. I began as a traditional quilter at the onset of our country's bicentennial. Quickly I tired of all the traditional designs and methods, and I wanted something more challenging. I organized design groups wherever I lived (many places, thanks to IBM), and I am a founder of Front Range Contemporary Quilters here in the Denver/Boulder, Colorado area.
I have exhibited both nationally and internationally, including Visions 1998 (San Diego, Ca.), Thirteen Moons Gallery (Santa Fe, New Mexico), the Pot Luck, Elements and Music Quilts traveling shows. My quilts have been featured in many books, magazines and on television.
